Install the WordPress plugin

Install the HaulHQ Bridge plugin, connect it to your account with an API key, and confirm the connection.

The HaulHQ Bridge plugin is a thin connector. It does not store your data -- it pulls your catalog, reviews, service area and photos from HaulHQ and renders them on your WordPress site through shortcodes.

Only if you want a WordPress site

This page assumes you have decided. If you have not, your HaulHQ page is already live and taking bookings without any of this -- see Which website should I use? first. The plugin is free either way; what WordPress costs you is hosting, a domain and the upkeep. If your site is not WordPress, the plugin does not apply: your HaulHQ page is live either way, and you can paste HaulHQ into the site you already run if it accepts raw HTML.

Install it

  1. 1In WordPress, go to Plugins > Add New and search for HaulHQ Bridge.
  2. 2Install and activate it. Settings > HaulHQ appears in the WordPress admin menu, under Settings.
  3. 3Alternatively, download it from wordpress.org/plugins/haulhq-bridge and upload the zip.

Connect it to your account

  1. 1In HaulHQ, go to Settings > Website and open the WordPress tab. Your API key is there, along with a copy button.
  2. 2In WordPress, go to Settings > HaulHQ, on the Connection tab, and paste the key.
  3. 3Click Test Connection. It should say Connection successful! API key is valid. If it does not, the key is wrong or was truncated on copy.

Treat the API key like a password

It identifies your account to the plugin. If you are handing setup to a contractor, give them the key rather than your HaulHQ login -- see Working with a web developer.

There are four tabs. What each does is covered in Plugin settings: Connection (your API key, and the chat widget switch), Shortcodes (a reference with copy buttons and a live preview), Styling (button colors, or your theme's own styles), and Cache (how long content is held before refetching). Every shortcode is also a block in the WordPress editor -- see Plugin settings.

Already have a contact form on the site? Once the plugin is connected, submissions from Gravity Forms, WPForms and Contact Form 7 arrive in HaulHQ as leads with nothing else to set up. The field labels that work are on Form integration.

Common mistakes

"I changed something in HaulHQ and the website did not update."

The plugin caches content. In WordPress, go to Settings > HaulHQ, the Cache tab, and press Clear Cache Now -- or wait for it to expire. See Plugin settings.

"Test Connection fails but the key looks right."

Copy it again with the copy button rather than selecting it by hand. A truncated key is the usual cause, and it fails identically to a wrong one.
