Dumpster rental

Work orders & trips

How a rental becomes scheduled work: the delivery trip, the pickup trip, and what closes a rental out.

This is part of the Dumpster rental workflow

Doing junk removal? Start with the quote workflow.

A rental is one job with two trips: a delivery and a pickup. They are scheduled separately because they happen days or weeks apart, and both have to be completed for the rental to close.

Delivery

  1. 1The trip appears on the schedule for the booked start date.
  2. 2Assign a driver and a vehicle.
  3. 3The driver marks it delivered and takes photos -- label them delivery.
  4. 4The container is now out, and the unit is unavailable until pickup completes.

Pickup

  1. 1The pickup trip sits on the booked end date.
  2. 2The driver collects the container and photographs it -- label them pickup.
  3. 3Marking pickup complete returns the unit to available and closes the rental.

An unfinished pickup keeps a container out of stock

Until pickup is marked complete, HaulHQ believes that container is still at a customer address and will not offer it to anyone else. If your availability looks lower than your yard does, look for open pickup trips first.

Extending a rental

Change the end date on the job. The pickup trip moves with it, and the unit stays reserved for the longer window.

Photos

Delivery and pickup photos are the rental equivalent of before/after. They protect you in a damage dispute, and a featured pair appears in your website gallery. See Photos & your gallery.

Common mistakes

"Availability is wrong -- it thinks containers are out that are back in my yard."

Open pickup trips. Complete them and the units return to stock.

"I completed the job but the container is still reserved."

The pickup trip is what releases the unit, not the job status. Complete the trip.
